The Tyler Public Library is offering a variety of programs for all ages through May:
youth activities
Art-O-Rama Afternoon – 5:30pm – 7:30pm May 14th at the Auditorium (1st Floor)
Students in grades 8 through 12 are invited to attend the 1920 themed event. This will be a hybrid event that is part dance and part museum. Participants will learn about the 1920s, make headgear from the period, and more. Also, 1920s style clothing is optional. RSVP for the event at www.TylerLibrary.com.
STEAM Saturday – 2pm May 21st at Makerspace (3rd floor)
Children in grades Kindergarten through 12 have the opportunity to build a parachute that can safely drop an egg to the ground.
Homeschool Laboratory – 2pm May 17th at Makerspace (3rd floor)
This event is for children aged 5 to 12 with May’s theme being sharks.
Library Under the Trees – every Friday from 3pm to 5pm at Tyler Parks
Children can enjoy a story time under the trees at several Tyler Parks. Join the library staff for group reading, individual reading, singing and grafts during the come and go program.

Study Buddies – 4:30pm May 5th & 19th at Makerspace (Library 3rd floor)
This is a tutoring program for children in Kindergarten through 6th grade run by teen library volunteers. The teenage tutors help the children with assignments and schoolwork in areas such as math, science, social studies, reading and language skills. Registration is required at tinyurl.com/2p996kj5. Story time in the library – weekly in the auditorium (1st floor)
Join the library staff for weekly reading, singing, activities and games during story time at the library. There will be no event from May 9th to 13th.
Baby Storytime (ages 0-18 months): 10:30am on Tuesdays
Story time for toddlers (18 to 36 months): Wednesdays 10:30 am
Preschool Stories (3 to 6 years): Thursdays 10:30 am
Discovery Time Playground – 10:30am – 11:30am May 9th – 13th in the Auditorium (1st Floor)
This event is for children aged 3 and under, their parents and carers. Families can play, learn, explore activities and meet community specialists in a variety of early childhood development areas.
Children’s take-home kits – May 9th at the kit kiosk on the first floor
Each month, kids of all ages can take home a fun, educational craft or project. Kits are available while supplies last. First come first serve. Kits are designed for the following age groups:

Tweens and Teens: Locker Magnet
Makerspace Activity – All month long at the Rover activity van on the first floor
Each month, the Rover Cart offers a STEAM-themed activity for kids when they visit the library. May encourages children to “make the world” with a variety of abstract shapes.
Adult Activities
History in the Library: The Salem Witch Trials – May 3-8 in the Auditorium (first floor)
Take a stroll through an infamous moment in American history. By the spring of 1692, the village of Salem was in hysterics with accusations of witchcraft and devilry. In the end, hundreds were charged, many imprisoned and 20 killed. With research, dioramas, and more, you can learn more about the Salem witch trials at the library exhibit in the auditorium.

May 7th to 8th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m
Basic computer class – May 4th and 18th in the computer room on the third floor
These two courses focus on digital security and keyboard 101. Places are limited. Call the library at (903) 593-7323 to register.

Chess Club – 10am every first Saturday in Makerspace (3rd floor)
Beginners and experienced players are invited.
Club Read – 10:30am every last Tuesday of the month in the Makerspace (3rd floor)
This month the book club is reading and discussing Mark Sullivan’s Beneath a Scarlet Sky.
East Texas Genealogical Society – 2:00 p.m. on the second Saturday in the auditorium (first floor)
The East Texas Genealogical Society is for those who love history and genealogy.
Meditation – 5:30pm First and Third Tuesdays in Makerspace (3rd floor)
Adults can relieve stress and learn meditation techniques in a group.
Open Door Writing Group – Wednesdays 12pm in Makerspace (3rd floor)
Writers are invited to hone their craft with other writers. Join the Open Door Writing Group as members share their work, discuss the writing process, and offer advice.
Quilting – Thursdays 10am in Makerspace (3rd floor)
For everyone who likes to quilt.
Tai Chi – 5:30pm on Thursdays in the Auditorium (1st Floor)
Adults can learn the martial art of Tai Chi.
Yoga – 5:30pm Mondays in the Auditorium (1st Floor)
